Google Science Fair 2012 Looking for Takers

Google Science Fair 2012The Google Science Fair 2012 is on! The entry deadline is April 1, 2012.

Google is looking for students aged 13 through 18 to submit science-related projects, videos, inventions, ideas…whatever you've got!

There is plenty of information on the official Google Science Fair 2012 website HERE (or http://google.com/sciencefair), including specifics on the judging process and criteria, helpful resources, bios of the judges, and explanation of the awesome prizes. Start with the VIDEO.

Awesome Judges

The Fair is conducted in partnership with CERN, LEGO, National Geographic, and Scientific American -- and that's where many of their distinguished (and impressive!) panel of judges for the final round are coming from. As the Google Science Fair website explains, these are acclaimed scientists and tech visionaries.

Prizes

Some of the things they've got ready to give away as prizes:

  • $50,000 and $25,000 scholarships from Google
  • Lots of Google Chromebooks and Android phones
  • A scientific trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic Expeditions
  • A chance at hands-on, real-life work opportunities at CERN, or LEGO, or Google
  • Personalized LEGO prizes

You can even win prizes for your school.

Regional finalists will be announced towards the end of May. 15 global finalists will be picked, then flown to Google headquarters in California. The final judging round will take place on July 23, 2012.

Any takers?

***Note to educators: There are plenty of resources for educators on the Google Science Fair 2012 site as well (http://www.google.com/events/sciencefair/educators.html). These include lesson plans, worksheets, tips, a poster, etc. This is also a great way to encourage girls -- all of Google Science Fair 2011's winners were girls!
